Mazda has always been ahead of the curve, and has embraced the current SUV craze with open arms. We continue to offer an assortment of versatile and stylish SUVs, including the highly acclaimed CX-5 and CX-9 models, but we’are looking to add a few more to our lineup. In 2024, we plan to release a series of three all-new SUVs, one of which is the mid-size Mazda CX-70. While the full details about this new attention to our lineup are still not available, here’s a little bit of what you can expect from this hotly anticipated SUV.
Mazda CX-70 Taking Aim
The new 2024 Mazda CX-70 will occupy a space in our lineup that has been vacant since we retired the Mazda CX-7 in 2012. Slotting in above the compact Mazda CX-50, the Mazda CX-70 will share its platform and powertrains with the larger Mazda CX-90. It will be a two-row mid-size crossover that will aim to compete with vehicles such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Honda Passport, while also encroaching into more luxurious territory where SUVs such as the Lexus RX reside.
SUV Style From Across the Pond
The CX-70’s styling should closely mimic the Mazda CX-60, a closely related SUV for the European market. Like the Mazda CX-90, it’s expected to have a sculpted front end that includes lots of chrome. Mazda CX-70 models will have wider bodywork than its European counterpart, and its longitudinal-engine configuration should bring the same long hood and upscale proportions as we can see on the Mazda CX-90.
Engineered to Excel
We expect the Mazda CX-70 to offer the same powertrains as the Mazda CX-90, with the first being a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six. This powertrain also has a 48-volt hybrid system with an electric motor sandwiched between the engine and transmission. It’s expecting that all 2024 Mazda CX-70s to be all-wheel drive, making them the ideal SUV option for any type of adventure.
